Sterilization of Hollow (lumened) Devices: Selecting the appropriate sterilizer/autoclave - mise à jour

Alberta Health Services
Sujet(s) : Établissements de services personnels

Alberta Health Services (AHS) has developed a provincial strategy for the approval of sterilizers/autoclaves in personal service facilities that focuses on the characteristics of the instrument being sterilized. There are many types of sterilizers found in the field and they are not all created equal. The AHS protocol relies on sterilizer/autoclave manufacturers to specifically state the capabilities of the autoclave in writing. In particular, hollow instruments such as tattoo tubes and piercing needles must be sterilized in an autoclave that is approved for the sterilization of hollow instruments. Failure to do so may result in inadequate sterilization of these hollow critical devices.
